Mothers of Multiples Donate to CHOP October 19,
2007
BROOMALL, PA – Main Line Mothers of Multiples Club delivered
a check for $8,000 to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
today. The money will help families utilizing CHOP’s new Special
Delivery Unit for the very highest-risk births.
Main Line MOMs, a support group for mothers of multiples which
meets in Broomall, PA, raised the money by hosting a statewide convention
for mothers of multiples. Over 400 mothers of twins, triplets, and
quadruplets from all across Pennsylvania attended the weekend-long
event.
“Many of our members have had the experience of delivering
their babies early, and having their preemies whisked away to the
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit” said Carole Costello of Media,
PA. Ms. Costello, mother of eight-year-old triplets, was a co-chair
of the fundraising effort. “In the most difficult cases, one
or more of the babies may be moved to a different hospital while
the mother is still recovering.”
The Special Delivery Unit at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
is scheduled to open in July 2008 and will be the only facility
of its kind in the world. Mothers will be able to deliver and recover
right at CHOP, where their babies will receive immediate specialized
care.
“We are enormously proud to have a connection with CHOP and
the Special Delivery Unit,” said Joslyn Gray of Drexel Hill,
PA. Ms. Gray, a fundraising co-chair and former president of Main
Line MOMs, is the mother of six-year-old twins and two singletons.
“Many members of our club put in a lot of hard work to raise
this money, because it’s something we feel strongly connected
to,” said Ms. Gray. “Our club is celebrating its 50th
anniversary this year. We’re so glad we can honor that history
by contributing to a facility that will offer extraordinary care
to babies, their moms, and their families, long into the future.”
